Having a bad day is just one of those things that will happen to us in life. When I have a bad day, the best thing I can do is recognize it. Recognizing that I am having a bad day allows me to separate myself from the negativity, and I can then choose whether or not I want to let it affect me.
If you find yourself struggling with a bad day, here are some things that may help you get through it:
Give Yourself Time to Feel
I think this is an important step when dealing with negativity. Feel present, feel what you’re feeling and understand that it’s completely normal. Don’t try to fight off what you’re feeling; acknowledge it and let the emotions flow through you.
Write Down What You’re Feeling
This is such a therapeutic activity! Writing down how you feel helps you become more objective about your situation. It also helps bring your thoughts into perspective because thoughts and emotions come and go as well.
Remind Yourself That It’s Temporary
Remind yourself that this too shall pass. Your emotions are like the weather—they change over time (think sunny with a chance of storms). When you experience intense emotions, remind yourself that they will eventually pass and try to stay in the present moment as best you can.
